TV: COULD YOU BE WITHOUT IT?

The TV was a great invention which everybody likes. They didn’t abuse of it, and, for this reason in the past they didn’t have problems against this machine since it was an entertainment and a mass media. Nowadays it has changed because a lot of people spend many hours in front of the television.

Supporters of watching TV present three main arguments. Firstly, they think that TV is a fantastic way of entertainment, because if you don’t know what to do you can always turn on the television, lie down on the sofa, and watch different types of programs. Secondly, this machine offers you history, cooking, discovery programs and they have an educational purpose. Finally, the TV is an important mass media with which you can be aware of what’s going on around the world. It offers you a lot of news.

Opponents of watching too much TV give four counterarguments. Firstly, they say that television replaces interaction between people, and this is a big problem, because there are a lot of people who can’t have a long conversation. Secondly, they argue that there are a lot of programs which aren’t appropriate for children, and all of them must be prohibited at particular times. Finally, one of the most serious problems is that it’s addictive and causes procrastination for students.

To conclude, I think that TV is designed to make people passive and uncritical. In my opinion, people should watch less television and if they do, they have to watch programs which contribute to their education as well as comedies or science fiction films.
